Do I need a permit for a fence in Slidell?
Yes — most fences in Slidell require a permit through the city’s Planning Department before you build. In residential front yards, Section 2.2202 of the zoning ordinance limits fences to 4 feet, and anything above 2½ feet has to stay see-through rather than solid, so a privacy fence typically needs to sit behind the front building line. Chain link isn’t allowed between a building and the street in commercial areas, and barbed wire or corrugated sheet metal aren’t permitted at all. We pull the permit, confirm which rules apply to your lot, and build to code so there are no surprises at inspection.
