SERVING BATON ROUGE FROM SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA

Your Fencing Contractor for Baton Rouge, LA

Custom fencing and ironwork for East Baton Rouge Parish

Baton Rouge is about an hour and fifteen minutes west of our Ponchatoula shop — far enough that we reserve Baton Rouge trips for larger residential jobs, custom ornamental iron, automatic gates, and commercial contracts where the drive makes sense for both of us.

East Baton Rouge Parish’s heavy clay (“gumbo”) soil is a different animal from the sandier ground we work with on the Northshore — it holds water longer after a storm and shifts more with the seasons, so post depth and footing matter even more here. We set every post to account for it, whether it’s a cedar privacy fence in a Baton Rouge subdivision or ornamental iron around a commercial property.

We’ve been building fences and ironwork across Southeast Louisiana for over 30 years, and every Baton Rouge project comes with Tony’s personal guarantee — if it doesn’t meet our standards, we come back and fix it.

Call (985) 703-0595 to discuss your Baton Rouge project and confirm scheduling.

Fencing Questions from Baton Rouge Homeowners

Common questions about fencing in the Baton Rouge area
Do you install fencing in Baton Rouge, LA?

Yes. Tony’s Fencing and Iron Works travels to Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish for fencing and ironwork projects. We are based in Ponchatoula in Southeast Louisiana and take on Baton Rouge jobs — particularly larger residential projects, custom ornamental iron gates, automatic gate systems, and commercial installations. Call (985) 703-0595 to discuss your project and confirm availability.

Do you need a permit for a fence in Baton Rouge, LA?

Yes. East Baton Rouge Parish requires a permit before fence construction, applied for through MyGovernmentOnline. The parish caps standard fences and walls at 8 feet, and in front and corner side yards, anything over 4 feet has to stay at least 70% see-through (no more than 30% solid). Fences must sit at least 15 feet from the edge of the street and 5 feet from the back of any sidewalk, and can’t block a drainage or utility servitude. Chain link is allowed parish-wide except in the Downtown character area, and concertina wire isn’t permitted anywhere in the parish. Anything over 8 feet needs an engineer’s wind-load design. We handle the permit paperwork as part of your project.

What fencing works best in Baton Rouge's climate?

Baton Rouge’s heat, humidity, and heavy clay (“gumbo”) soil create specific challenges for fence posts and materials. Cedar is the best wood option — it resists rot and insects better than pine in the Louisiana humidity. Vinyl requires no maintenance and handles the climate well. Ornamental iron with a rust-inhibiting finish is the most durable long-term choice. That clay soil expands and contracts more than the sandier ground on the Northshore, so post depth and concrete footing matter even more here — we set every post to account for it.

Do you work in Baton Rouge subdivisions with HOA rules?

Yes. A lot of Baton Rouge neighborhoods have HOA or subdivision covenants that go beyond the parish’s own fence rules — restricting fence height, material, or even color, on top of East Baton Rouge Parish’s 8-foot limit and 70%-open rule for front and corner yards. We recommend checking your HOA’s architectural guidelines before you call us, or we’re happy to review them together during your free estimate so the fence gets approved the first time.

Where else does Tony's Fencing serve in Louisiana?

Tony’s Fencing and Iron Works primarily serves the Northshore — Ponchatoula, Hammond, Covington, and Mandeville. We also serve the Southshore including New Orleans, Metairie, and surrounding parishes. Call (985) 703-0595 to confirm availability for your area.
